DIRT NEWS
utah dirt news image for Beginning with Komatsu and Caterpillar, construction machines have begun turning to more eco-friendly sources. They have joined thousands of other businesses in responding to the pressure to ease up on emissions.

Hitachi has come out with (from what I gather) a machine that can convert the kinetic energy that builds up during the machine movement, into usable energy. In layman's terms, every time the arm swings around on it's hydraulics energy is created and used.

Sounds complicated? It is. The good news is excavators everywhere will be able to show progress on emissions friendly machines and receive an easing of pressure from environmental groups in return.

Anybody that has paid attention to the construction equipment world lately knows there is a push for hybrid equipment. Machines that can run on a regular engine, along with an alternative energy source. Now, Hitachi has joined the chase!

utah dirt news image for Energy efficiency - It doesn't take a lot of research or knowledge to know that energy prices aren't likely to drop any time soon. Most Americans have seen a drastic increase in energy prices during their life time. With this expectancy in mind, energy efficiency is considered by many American's to be the #1 issue in buying a new home.

Storage space - Home sizes are shrinking, of that there is no doubt. However, that doesn't necessarily mean people have less stuff to put in their homes. Some of the hottest trends of 2014 involve homebuilders that have found innovative ways for people to store possessions.

Price - While this has always been the bottom line, recent statistics show that new home prices have dropped nearly every year since 2005. This reflects the economic strain and the attitude of Americans as a whole, as the economic downturn creates a more frugal generation.

There are many more considerations when building a new home, but if you focus on these you've got a good chance of keeping your business strong.

utah dirt news image for 1: Communication
Communication is the most important thing to consider when choosing your landscaper. They will be designing the landscape you will be looking at for years to come, so if bad communication occurs you will be the one that suffers. Many people don't feel comfortable around their landscaper and live to regret not telling them which ideas they did or didn't like. Don't let this be you!
2: Budget
The budget is something that must be established early on. Don't make the mistake of not worrying about a budget till the end. Sit down with the landscapers you are considering and make sure they understand what budget you are operating in and are willing to work with that.
3: Start now
There is no time like the present. This is especially true with landscaping and springtime. Get started now and have a beautiful view all summer and fall.
Good luck!

utah dirt news image for What they are:

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are companies that buy mortgages from home lenders allowing them to make more loans. Due to some mistakes these companies have made in the past, they are now run by the government (don't groan yet).

How it affects us:

Due to their nature, these companies have a strong affect on the housing economy, and thus indirectly affect all businesses involved in the selling or building of real estate. If things worked like they were supposed to, Fannie and Freddie would be a stimulus to the housing market, both building and selling. However, because they are now run by the government, congress is now in charge of the future of these two companies.

What will happen with them:

No one knows. That is up to congress. Congress has been slow to act on anything lately, and so most likely Fannie and Freddie will not affect most people's lives in the near future.
